Current Stage

Currently, the Council is preparing a new Borough Local Plan and a number of mini consultations were undertaken during the summer 2015, with some elements still ongoing. The consultation database keeps people up to date and enables consultees to make comments online or view comments which have already been made.

Residents, businesses and other interested parties were consulted in January 2014 on a First Preferred Options. This set out the Council’s preferred approach to future development, including policy on town centres and future development including the environment, housing, the economy, infrastructure and other matters. The consultation statement shows the response to the Council received from respondents.

In February 2015 the Council agreed to review the work undertaken and to include an ongoing programme of engagement and consultation with stakeholders. The consultation opened in the summer of 2015 and continued throughout the year. One of the consultations included an Edge of Settlement Analysis which assessed the suitability of land on the edge of settlements for development. This is comprised of two stages:

• Part One which considers how land performs against the purposes of including land in the Green Belt as defined in the National Planning Policy Framework; and
• Part Two which continues to consider how those areas of land which perform least well against the purposes of the Green Belt perform against further indicators of suitability.

The outcome of the studies will be used alongside other evidence to inform a review of the Green Belt. The deadline for this was 6th November 2015.

Currently, the Council is considering all responses received, with a full consultation planned for 2016.
