He has worked throughout the development sectors on projects ranging from big infrastructure schemes and strategic land allocation through to single house applications. Clients have included Sainsbury’s, Hammerson, Redrow, Crest Nicholson, Linden Homes, Land Securities, National Grid, Gatwick Airport Ltd, E.On, Wheelabrator, SITA, EDF and more. Julian joined from a niche agency where he was a company director.

Liam Herbert

Liam Herbert

With over 25 years’ experience Liam has been involved with some of the most significant construction and infrastucture projects of recent years – from energy to transport, housebuilding and strategic land development.

A specialist in community and political engagement he has acted on behalf of developers to convey complex messages in a compelling and non-technical way.  He works to generate and motivate support and create understanding in the creation of new places and infrastructure.

Michael Hardware

Michael has approaching 30 years’ experience of planning public affairs working on a wide range of projects across the UK including residential, retail, commercial and energy, as well as public open spaces and even a national memorial.

He started his career working client-side for the development arm of William Sindall PLC, now Morgan Sindall, building commercial developments and 450 homes per year across East Anglia, London and the south east.

Michael has worked on most of Chelgate’s property and construction clients over his 23 years with the firm. He ran the Wilson Connolly (Wilcon Homes) account, then the UK’s fifth-largest housebuilder, for 10 years, three of which was on secondment as head of external affairs running all corporate, planning, sustainability and consumer PR for the company across nine regions and 150 operational sites.

Nick Wood-Dow

A specialist in political affairs, he has special responsibility at Chelgate for local and national government relations, and has practical experience of politics at every level. He has been a councillor in a county borough, serving on planning, highways and health committees, and as deputy to the leader on policy and resources.

He also has a particular expertise in environmental matters. He is deputy chairman of the Environment Council, and founder/chairman of the Tory Green Initiative. Nick will be High Sheriff of Surrey in 2018/19.

Diana Varley

Diana Varley, Chelgate Local, planing communicationsDiana joined the Chelgate team in 2016 having previously worked as a senior political adviser to a Member of Parliament and a Member of the European Parliament. Diana is also a district councillor and understands the importance of effective grassroots campaigns and communicating properly with local residents and businesses.

Her time working in Parliament has given Diana an understanding of both Parliamentary and Select Committee processes. She is able to effectively communicate with all levels of Government from Whitehall to local authorities.

Marian Craig

Marian joined Chelgate in 2017, having previously worked for a Member of the Scottish Parliament as a researcher and caseworker. She graduated in Politics from the University of Strathclyde in 2015, specialising in local politics and political engagement.

She has extensive experience in housing policy and engaging with all levels of government from cabinet ministers to local councillors.

Rebecca Lass

Rebecca Lass picRebecca joined Chelgate in 2017. She studied at Newcastle University and graduated in Politics in 2015, concentrating on politics in the UK.

Prior to joining Chelgate, Rebecca worked for a Conservative Member of Parliament as caseworker and researcher. Whilst there, she worked on the development of the Local Plan in the constituency she was based developing her knowledge of the planning process and issues surrounding the Green Belt. She has a sound understanding of the way Local Government works and has experience communicating with local Councillors and Government Officials.
